Resilient Hoppy

My name is Hoppy.  A lot of people wonder about names, how they came to be called what they are called.  Was I named after my mom or dad?  No, nobody knows who my mom and dad are.  Where did I come from then, you might ask..

I was found in a ditch on the side of the road.  I couldn’t walk..my legs didn’t work.  I had a big wound on the top of my head.  I just laid there by the side of the road for a long time until someone stopped and picked me up.  See, I am a runner.  If anyone had tried to catch me when my legs worked, they would have tried in vain.  I am a little bit of a wild dog, but that day I could not move no matter how much I wanted to.

I was taken to an animal clinic where they said I had two broken legs..a front one and a back one.  No wonder I couldn’t run!   They put me in a cage and talked about putting me to sleep because I had no owner and they already had too many strays dumped on them that they were trying to find homes for but didn’t have broken legs..I guess when you are broken, you are on the bottom of the list to save.

So I laid in my kennel, with food and water and a couple of broken legs and some really good pain medicine.  The veterinarian didn’t want to put me to sleep of course because that is always the last thing they ever want to do, no matter how broken or homeless we are.

The next morning they discussed me again.  This time I got them…I stood up..sure, only on two legs but I was standing! And I wagged my tail crazily, I ate food, I did everything I could to show them I wasn’t going down! And they listened!

So my name became Hoppy.  I think you can figure it out from there..
